Wix is a do-it-yourself website builder: you build the site on a template and make every change yourself, from US$17 a month on the Light plan (billed yearly, before tax), about R280. Send to Site does it for you: it rebuilds your current WordPress site with the same look and URLs, you email changes, and up to 4 SEO articles a month are included, for R1 500 a month for six months and R750 after that. Wix costs less cash; Send to Site costs less of your time.

Your time counts
What does Wix cost once you count your own time?
Counting your own hours, Wix Light comes to about R25 350 in the first year against R19 500 for Send to Site. In cash alone, Wix is about R10 150 cheaper.
Our assumptions
- Your time is worth R500 an hour, the rate Glitch, a Cape Town maintenance company, charges for edits. Use your own number if it differs.
- Moving your current site onto a Wix template takes you 20 hours, once: pages, images, settings and redirects.
- Keeping a Wix site current takes you 2 hours a month.
- With Send to Site you spend 1 hour a month writing change emails and reading previews and articles.
- Wix Light at US$17 a month, billed yearly, at R16.42 to the dollar. Tax is left out on both sides, and your domain and email cost the same either way.

Change the assumptions and the answer moves. If you'd spend 30 minutes a month on edits and enjoy doing it, Wix comes out ahead, and clearly so over three years. If those hours would otherwise go to paying work, it doesn't.
The Wix column also includes no new articles. Writing four a month yourself would add far more hours than we've counted.
Send to Site's first six months pay for rebuilding the site you already have, so the look, the words and the URLs Google knows stay put. After that, the price halves.

How much does Wix cost in South Africa?
Wix shows South African visitors US dollar prices: US$17 a month for Light, US$29 for Core, US$39 for Business and US$159 for Business Elite, billed yearly and before tax, as listed on wix.com on 29 September 2026. Is it worth paying for a Wix site?
Yes, if you will build and edit it yourself. A paid plan connects your own domain and removes Wix branding, and Light costs about R280 a month. It is less worth it if you are paying with your evenings, or if you already have a WordPress site that works and would have to rebuild it from scratch.
What is a disadvantage of using Wix?
Your site cannot leave Wix. Wix's own help centre says that because it is a software-as-a-service platform, your site must run on Wix's servers, so it cannot be exported to another host. If you move away later, you rebuild. Send to Site hands you your site's files if you leave.
Can I move my WordPress site to Wix and keep my Google rankings?
You can protect them with 301 redirects, which tell Google a page has moved for good. Wix's help centre says URL redirects keep your previous site's Google ranking data when you move to Wix, and it has a redirect manager for them. You still rebuild every page yourself. Send to Site keeps your URLs as they are, so nothing needs redirecting unless a page has to move.
Can I edit a Send to Site website myself, like on Wix?
Not through a login, because there isn't one, and that is part of why the site is fast and hard to break into. You email the change in plain words, from any device, and approve the preview. If you want to drag things around yourself, Wix is the better fit.
